Membership and Measurement
In order for us to be able to register everybody smoothly and efficiently, I want to remind you of a few details which we will be dealing with at the regatta.
First, both skippers and crews MUST be current members of the 505 Class Association in order to compete. WE WILL NOT SCORE TEAMS WHICH ARE NOT BOTH MEMBERS OF THE CLASS. If you have questions about your membership status, the current American Section Secretary is Macy Nelson who can be reached at gmacynelson@gmacynelson.com. Deborah Ashby is the secretary for the Candians. Deborah, Macy and I will be co-ordinating to ensure that everybody who has current membership gets scored. We will be able to accept membership checks and forms at the regatta, so if you have not paid, please be sure to bring cash or your checkbook to the regatta so that you can do so. The form for US membership including cost information can be found at:
http://www.int505.org/usa/paypal/form.htm
In addition to ensuring that membership requirements are met, we will be prepared to ensure compliance with the class rules through equipment inspection. We are planning to measure and stamp sails which have not been previously stamped. If you would like this service, we will be open to provide it on Thursday, October 27 from 6-9 PM and Friday, October 28th. We will reserve the right to spot-check pre-stamped sails as well, but we are not planning to do full checks of all competitors' sails.
In addition to measurement of unstamped sails, we will have equipment inspection for the top 5 boats at 8:00 AM on Saturday morning 10/29 and Sunday morning 10/30. We will not inspect any boats twice unless there is a protest, so if you have been inspected on saturday, you will not need to be inspected again on sunday. Assuming 1-5 are the same on sunday, we will inspect 6-10. This will also be posted as an official notice at the regatta.
If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or Bob Patterson.

Despite all the tough talk about measurement, we are probably not going to turn anybody away from the regatta. We are serious about joining the class, though. This is part of our class rules and required for eligibility to compete in a championship. So be prepared to join when you show up if you're not already a class member!
